Body Mass Index (BMI)

BMI (Body Mass Index) is a popular method used to gauge whether or not a person is overweight. BMI is calculated by dividing a person's weight (in kilograms) by his or her height (in meters, squared).

For example, my current weight is 104 kg and my height is 1.83m

My BMI is 104 divided by 1.83 x 1.83 that is 104 divided by 3.35 = 31.04 which, unfortunately, makes me OBESE on the scale below

 BMI Body Mass Index  Comment
less than 18.5  Underweight
18.5 to 24.9  Ideal weight
25 - 29.9  Overweight
30 to 40  Obese
40 plus  Very Obese

Please note: BMI is only a guide to overall health and must be looked at in conjunction with other factors
